This collection of Abenakis pottery hails from right here in Canada. The set includes 14 pieces: a large coffee/tea pot, a smaller teapot, 4 mugs, a crem and sugar set a covered honey pot, a syrup jug with cork, a set of salt and pepper shakers, a pitcher and a covered butter dish.
Produced in Beauce County, Quebec by Ceramique de Beauce Inc. these pieces are a part of the Abenakis collection. The company began in 1939 and was open until 1989. Even when the factory burned to the ground in 1974, they managed to comeback, reopening just one year
Each piece is marked and numbered and features a "woodcut" advertisement from a 19th Century Canadian company. These are the salt and pepper shakers to the set, they stand just under 3" tall and have their original corks.
The pitcher stands 6" tall and is in excellent condition. Over the years these pieces have become highly collectable, a nice way to collect Canadiana.
The covered butter dish measures 6.5" across and is just under 3" tall. This is the only piece with any damage and I have photographed two close-ups to show the mar. The last two pictures int his album clearly show the chip.
The covered butter dish has a recessed centre. This, like all of the pieces has a wonderful glossy glaze to it, it reminds me of the Sadler Brown Betty teapots.
This is the larger of the two pots, this one measure 5" tall.
The smaller teapot measures 4" tall. Both pots are in very nice condition with no nicks or chips to either the pots or lids.
The cream and sugar pair are 3" tall also in perfect condition.
I have listed this piece as a covered honey pot. This would also bee good for storing tea bags or even sugar cubes. It measures about 3.5" tall and is very nice condition.
There are four mugs in this 14 piece set. The mugs feature two different woodcut advertisements and all four are in very nice condition. The mugs are just over 4" tall each.
This is a close-up of one of the mug patterns.
This is the other mug pattern. Each advertisement features old Canadian Companies from across Canada.
The pieces are all marked on the bottom some with their piece number, some with the Abenakis name, some with Beauce and all with Canada I believe.
The back of each piece features the "Ye Olde Canadian Crock Prints" logo.
Here is the one small bit of damage. This is on the edge of the butter dish, this picture and the next one show it in as good a detail as I could get.
Here is that second shot of the damage to the edge of the butter dish.
